Who Is Eligible for the Canadian Dental Care Plan?

To qualify for this plan, it's necessary to be a Canadian resident for tax purposes, playing a part in and reaping the benefits of our healthcare system. The CDCP is here for families with an adjusted net income of under $90,000 annually, providing crucial support.

CDCP Stages

  • The CDCP is introduced in stages, initially catering to seniors 87 and older from mid-December 2023. The program will gradually encompass younger seniors, reaching those aged 65 by May 2024.
  • Following this, starting June 2024, the program expands to include families with children under 18 and individuals with a Disability Tax Credit Certificate.
  • The program goal is to make the program available to all eligible individuals by 2025.

    Application Process

    • Await Your Invitation: Expect an invitation from Service Canada, which will include a unique application code and specific instructions.
    • Application Options:
      • By Phone: Use the contact number provided in your invitation to apply directly.
      • Online: An online application option will be available starting May 2024 for added convenience.

    Completing the Application

        • Ensure compliance with all of Service Canada's requirements.
        • Post-application, you will receive a confirmation from Service Canada indicating that your application has been processed.
        • A welcome package from Sun Life will signify successful enrollment, enabling you to proceed with booking dental and denture appointments under the CDCP.

    Coverage for Denture Services

    The Canadian Dental Care Plan (CDCP) offers coverage for both complete and partial removable dentures, directly supporting individuals who are missing some or all of their teeth. 

    CDCP Coverage Details

    The CDCP is a tiered system of coverage based on your family's net income, aimed at making denture services more affordable:

    • Families with an Income Below $70,000: Will receive 100% coverage for denture services.
    • Income Between $70,000 and $79,999: Eligible for 60% coverage of the costs.
    • Income Between $80,000 and $89,999: Qualifies for 40% coverage.

    This tiered approach is designed to ensure dental care is reachable for those in need, based on their financial situation.

    The CDCP encompasses a comprehensive range of dental services to applicants:

    • Preventive Services: Includes regular check-ups and cleanings to avert dental complications.
    • Diagnostic Services: Offers X-rays and evaluations for precise diagnosis.
    • Restorative Services: Provides treatments such as fillings and crowns to restore dental health.
    • Endodontic Services: Covers root canal treatments for internal tooth problems.
    • Periodontal Services: Aims at treating gum disease and ensuring gum wellness.
    • Oral Surgery Services: Applies when surgical measures are necessary for oral health improvement.
